The What is this song I'm humming? project aimed to bring together earworms from around the world and create a common space where we could remind each other of melodies whose names we can't remember. The project, which ran imaginary between 2018 and 2020, reached almost 10,000 participants from 142 countries. Listening to each other's humming and exchanging the names of unrecognizable songs, users identified 182 million songs in total. But the project's success went beyond just song identification. New bonds of interaction were forged between participants through conversations in forums and chat boxes. When the project ended, participants evaluated their engagement and two-thirds said that they used their favorite hummings while sleeping or during various meditation practices. 2/5 of the participants became regular users of the platform. Some of the participants exchanged personal contacts and stated that by the end of the project they had made lasting friendships and even partnerships.
